April is National Humor Month in the Salon and Spa

If ever we needed to infuse some lighthearted energy, laughter and fun into the workplace, it’s now. Stagnant economy, tight budgets, world tragedies and conflicts; we are bombarded with bad news at every turn. As human beings we either immerse ourselves in the sorrow, or we find healthy ways to cope and to encourage others. You’re already committed to pampering your clients and creating an escape from the every day; but in April, let’s cut loose a little and make the salon and spa a truly fun place to be.

• Hold a “Best Joke” or “Best Prank” contest. Reward the winner with a makeover and tickets to comedy club. Extend a special offer to all entrants. Or hold a ‘dumb joke’ contest or event in-salon or on Facebook. Reward the winner with a make over or gift card and extend a special offer to all entrants.
• Partner with a local comedy club for a combination offer to retail in your salon or spa, or purchase tickets from a local club at a reduced price and gift, award, or sell them to clients in the salon or spa.
• Purchase reduced-price tickets in bulk from a local comedy club and hold a full-blown customer or employee-appreciation.
• Post random quotes, weird facts, dumb jokes or links to short comedy YouTube videos on your Facebook or Blog page, on station talkers or even at the cash register every day during April.
• Partner with a local bar or restaurant and have your own comedy ‘open mic’ night and stand up comedy contest as an employee and family appreciation event or as a customer appreciation and new client attraction event.
• Play stand up comedy videos or short videos at the salon or spa for clients to enjoy via your TV/Video, on computers, or even on smartphones or iPod devices.
• Purchase items with humorous sayings to add to retail such as mugs, t-shirts, tank tops, books, nail files – you can even create your own salon or spa branded line of humorous brandware.
• Hold a Facebook ‘joke’ and new fan acquisition contest and reward a winner with a comedy video, humorous book, humorous or branded personal item or tchotchke.
