Attract New Clients Using Seasonal Beauty Trends

The numbers for April are in and when it comes to web traffic, only general news sites come in with more views than beauty and style websites, which dominated the top 50 web properties, drawing more than 4x the web traffic of its nearest competitor in terms of web traffic in April 2012 according to marketingcharts.com.

No one should be beating your salon or dayspa to the punch when it comes to this topic; beauty and style is your game, after all!

Featuring seasonal beauty trends including color, fashion and style trends online can boost your website traffic, including local search traffic.

And the more local website traffic your website and social media pages enjoy, the more opportunity you have to attract new clients and engage your current clients to a deeper level of relationship with your salon or with you, as a professional within the beauty industry.

Doing so is fairly simple.  With a quick Google search of your own,  visits to fashion, style and beauty trend websites such as fashionising.com or trendhunter.com, or by visiting the web properties of your own favorite designers and makeup companies you will discover no end of resources for seasonal cosmetics and hair trends to share with your clients, and which can help you plan your own salon’s seasonal makeup and style events, promotions and services.

Then, at least once each quarter, post updates to your website, blog, email newsletter and social media status updates relative to the colors that are on trend for any given season (spring, summer, fall or winter, and you might also feature a 5th “holiday season” topic as well).

The graphics featured in this article show Pantone’s Spring 2012 colors for women. The graphic below includes the Pantone color name as well as the CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow and black) color levels that are used in items that need to be professionally printed or the RGB (red, green, blue) color levels that make up images that will be used on the internet, in email newsletters, on your website, blog, etc. And last but not least, I also included the web color number (the 6 alpha-numeric number shown below each color below) which you might need in order to match background or accent colors on a web page or email newsletter to your graphics.  For a larger version of this 2012 Spring and Summer Colors image, click here or on the image below and then right click on the larger image to save the graphic to your computer.

As a stylist, esthetician, nail technician or other professional within the salon or spa, there are many ways to use seasonal color trends like the 2012 spring and summer colors shown here to help draw more local web traffic and engage viewers once they are on your website or blog:

  • Use these colors to create your own 2012 spring and summer eyeshadow palette and create a promotion around purchase of multiple colors in the palette or the whole set.
  • Purchase eyeshadows in similar colors and hold a 2012 spring and summer eyeshadow clinic to teach clients how to use, blend, mix and match these beautiful colors.
  • Pick out 2012 spring and summer colors (such as the light pink, magenta and brick orange) and sell lip colors (lip glosses or lipsticks) in these colors.
  • Set up a nail polish display with colors from the 2012 spring and summer color palette.
  • Create promotions around singles, multiples or mixed and matched groups of makeup items (lipstick, eye shadow and nail polish) to feature throughout the spring and summer.
  • Create graphics or take photographs featuring nail lacquers (or shellac colors), lip gloss or lipstick and eye shadows using the colors from this palette to share on Facebook and other social networks, pin to Pinterest and write about on your website, blog and email newsletter.
  • Partner with a local boutique clothing or shoe retailer to hold your own spring and summer 2012 color fashion show or sale.

And while makeup comes to mind, that’s just the tipping point when it comes to using these amazing colors to attract new clients to your salon or day spa.  While you may not want to use this palette as inspiration for actual permanent hair colors, there is no reason why your more daring clients might not want to experiment with some extra-colorful highlights during the spring and summer.

Beyond actual hair color, you might also purchase and sell other items in these beautiful colors in order to expand your retail options, such as:

  • hair accessories, barrettes or clips
  • scarves or wraps
  • clip in extensions or feathers
  • cold or hot beverage mugs for personal use or suitable for gifts
  • costume jewelry, or even
  • t-shirts or tank tops

Since your customers will be seeing these bright and beautiful colors on the pages of fashion magazines and websites, it makes sense for you to present your services and products among the expert color resources they have for exploring the 2012 spring and summer trending colors.  You can even use them on your marketing artwork, flyers and note cards as well as within your signage and other merchandising props.

The great thing about using seasonal color trends as the inspiration for promotions, newsletter and blog articles and even social media links is that the hard work of creating the content is done – not just for spring 2012 but for all the seasons to come by stylists and designers who create for the runways in New York, Paris, Madrid and beyond; all you have to do is translate it into everyday appeal for your clients!
