While you’re thinking it over, we invite you to play along. When you’ve come up with your brand theme song, tweet it to us @MarketingDesks using the hashtag #BrandAThemeSong.
Year after year, lead generation and customer acquisition top the list of marketers’ reasons for existing. With all this focus, you’d think that we would eventually figure it out. Nevertheless, the gap between aspirations and realizations remains. One reason for this gap is the space between what a brand is, and what it wants to be; another is the gap that exists where marketing has failed to communicate the brand effectively to its constituency.
Thinking of your brand in terms of your company’s mission and vision, logo, products, services, values, or any other element of brand identity is great in the conference room; however, your customers might not think in such business-ey terms. We’ve asked the question previously: If your brand were a person and walked into the room, how would you describe them, because taking this kind of an approach forces you to step back and evaluate your company from a fresh point of view.
Today we’re asking this: If you had to choose just one, what would your brand theme song be?
This isn’t about writing a jingle. It’s about thinking of the songs most of us would find familiar if we heard it played on the radio, in a piano bar, on an elevator, or in a store. For instance, here at The Marketing Desks we play to our strengths. We figure out what each of our unique marketing super powers are, and those are the skills each of us spends most of our time using. Our #BrandAThemeSong picks could include songs like:
Holding Out for a Hero by Bonnie Tyler #BrandAThemeSong @MarketingDesks
“I need a hero, I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the end of the night. He’s gotta be strong and he’s gotta be fast and he’s gotta be fresh from the fight.” Our goal isn’t to attract everyone; rather, our goal is to attract unique customers and be their champion, so they can rise above in their city, industry, or niche. And we can go into motion quickly on behalf of our clients.
Don’t Stop Believing by Journey #BrandAThemeSong @MarketingDesks
Everyone’s favorite and we love it too. “Don’t stop believing, hold on to that feeling…” We believe in the inherent value and worth each of our clients brings to the market place; indeed, it would be impossible to create the marketing content and make the claims we do without this.
Shout by Otis Day #BrandAThemeSong @MarketingDesks
We know you’re excited about your company and we know your customers should be too. Our goal is to get people excited about what your brand has to offer, to create not just new customers but bold brand advocates.
Livin’ on a Prayer by Bon Jovi #BrandAThemeSong @MarketingDesks
“Woah, we’re half way there, whoa, livin’ on a prayer. Take my hand, we’ll make it I swear, Woah, livin’ on a prayer.” While we don’t actually accept payment in the form of prayers, we’re very budget conscious. Many of our clients fall in the small to midsize business range. We aren’t afraid to start small and create a marketing plan that produces results, so that the marketing budget can grow over time as well.
I Walk the Line by Johnny Cash #BrandAThemeSong @MarketingDesks
“I keep a close watch on this heart of mine. I keep my eyes wide open all the time. I keep the ends out for the tie that binds. Because you’re mine, I walk the line.” We look out for our clients. It’s normal for us to offer ideas outside of the range of services we provide and to keep an eye on their competitors to watch for potential areas of opportunity.
I Will Possess Your Heart by Death Cab for Cutie #BrandAThemeSong @MarketingDesks
“How I wish you could see the potential, the potential of you and me. It’s like a book elegantly bound but in a language that you can’t read – just yet. You gotta spend some time, love. You gotta spend some time with me and I know you’ll find, love, I will possess your heart.” This song is all about marketing! Our job is to introduce our clients brands to those buyers who represent their “ideal match.” And sometimes it takes time, especially in industries with a long buying journey.
How about you? What brand theme song could be used to help define aspects that set your brand apart from your competitors? What song would you choose to portray how you feel about your customers or your employees? What brand theme song would you choose to represent the super powers that your brand brings to bear in a crowded marketplace?
Tweet your own brand theme song to us by using the hashtag and tagging us with: #BrandAThemeSong @MarketingDesks as well as your own company @ tag.
