15 Ideas for Salon Names and 3 Ways to Get It Right
I grew up across the street from a home-based salon called “Ann’s Cut ‘N Curl,” so I’m no stranger to great – and not so great – salon names. I’ve assembled some along with my comments and just for fun included an infographic with 20 salon names you just might want to steer clear of.
The Best Salon Names Are Timeless
There are few industries whose businesses come up with as many cliché industry terms to use as name as the salon industry. While salon names like Cut ‘N’ Curl and the like are cute and many are very clever, but they can feel cliché or dated.
Before naming a salon or spa, think about how you might feel about the name if you were in a different phase of life (a.k.a. older!) and run it past people who are in different age groups and with people who you would categorize as your ideal salon client types to see how they respond.
Doing a little field testing with the top three or four salon names you have in mind could help ensure that you choose the one that will be most effective with your ideal salon client types.
The Best Salon Names Offer Clues
Ideas for salon names that provide clues about your salon’s ambiance, the client types that would be happiest there or some other aspect of your salon can help people decide to pick your business when they’re looking for a new salon to try.
The Best Salon Names Are Memorable But Aren’t Found in Every Town
The truth is, no matter what you name your salon, you’re going to have to earn its reputation. Choosing a name that catches people’s attention and sticks in their minds can mean they choose your salon when it comes up in search online and that they remember its name when it comes time to book an appointment or make a referral.

- Lunatic Fringe 1790 S 1100 E, 2nd Floor, Salt Lake City, UT 84105
http://www.lunaticfringesalon.com/
Although this is a chain salon it made its way onto this list, because while there are many salons called “Fringe” in the U.S. when you preface the word with “lunatic” it takes on a whole new edge.
- Foiled – 331 W National Ave Milwaukee, WI 53204

Nothing subtle about this one and we’re pretty sure clients won’t forget the name any time soon. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang promises you a mashup of punk rock and hair fashion.

- Hotbox Salon 2075 E. Windmill Lane, Las Vegas, NV 89123
http://www.hotboxsalon.com/
Normally we’d be on the fence about including a salon name that could be associated with something negative or controversial. But for a salon located in Vegas, this type of salon name stands out in a way that’s probably just about right.
- (It’s a tie) Just Teasin’ 11845 Lewis Clark Dr., Lolo, MT 59847 and
Teez’d Hair Salon 2504 N Racine Ave, Chicago, IL 60614
http://www.teezdhair.com/
Once again, there are many “Tease” salons around the country but we appreciated these salons for taking the word and changing it up. Once takes it to a light-hearted place and the other is memorable for it’s spelling.
- SWANQ Style Studio 4610 Evergreen Way, Ste 3, Everett, Washington 98203
http://www.swanqstylestudio.com/
For this salon, the word SWANQ is an absolute which is both a statement and an inside story. We not only love the name, but the logo, too, with it’s clean, light-weight modern font. By the way, SWANQ is an acronym for Southern Warmth And Northwest Quality.
- Sole Patch Men’s Shop 8235 Corinth Mall, Prairie Village, KS 66208

No list of salon names could be complete without a few from the masculine side of the aisle. Sole patch is utterly man-ly and speaks to the attitude and style you’ll find within.
- Bombshell Bettys 2312 University Ave, Des Moines, IA 50311
http://bombshellbettyssalon.com/
Personally? This one is my favorite. Hearing the name of this salon, you don’t even need to know the owner to close your eyes and get a visual. I love the nod to the historical era of WWII that lets you know this salon is a force to be reckoned with!
- Style of Man 65 E Lancaster Ave, Paoli, PA 19301
http://styleofman.com/
This is a great example of a play on words that doesn’t cross over into cliché. The Isle of Man is a self-governing British Crown dependency in the Irish Sea. The Style of Man rules the rest of the world.
- Do or Dye Beauty and Barber Shop 17 Fairfax Road, Rochester NY
http://doordyerochester.wix.com/doordye
Yes, I know, it’s a bit cliché, but do or dye makes me think about the fact that we’ve only got one life to live and we should make the most of it. To quote the undisputed ultimate mentor and philosophical guru of our time, “Do or do not, there is no try!” – Yoda
- Hair by Shenanigan’s 4485 Trinity Mills Rd #30, Dallas, TX 75287
http://hairbyshenanigans.com/
When I was looking for memorable names there were a lot – and I mean A LOT – of Hair By’s. But most of those ended in the names of people I don’t know. But I know plenty of shenanigans, and I love them ALL!
- Rock Paper Scissors Hair Salon 413 E Chapel Hill St., Durham, NC 27701
http://www.rpssalondurham.com/
Great hair and games too? We’re hoping that this isn’t their consultation strategy, but we’ll still take our chances.
